Thermal Analysis

Wenzlau Engineering has developed a proprietary model used for analytical review of the required environmental parameters when imposed on the subject environmental enclosure. This computer based model is used to provide induced heat gains and losses associated with an enclosure. The model results provide the amount of cooling and heating required to condition the enclosure while maintaining the internal temperature parameters specified.

The model defined herein was initially developed in 1956, and has been continually updated and modified to include the latest development related to the study of thermodynamics. The model is designed for determining the heating and cooling loads for ground based electronic enclosures, including trailers, shelters and vans. The model takes into special consideration the unique characteristics of ground mobile electronic systems. Specifically, the model focuses on the high percentage of sensible versus latent heat loads, extreme environmental conditions and the construction of the enclosures.

The model standards are in accordance with those of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), which are based upon fundamental scientific principles associated with the study of thermodynamics. The model, as presented herein, utilizes data and principles from Mackey and Wright Sol-Air Tables, MIL-STD-810, AR 70-38, MIL-STD-1472 and MIL-STD-210. The basic model elements have been used for over 40 years and the greatest level of validation for the model is the historical success of its results. The model has become an industry standard for sizing environmental control units in the mobile electronics industry.

Leading system integrators, enclosure manufacturers and environmental control unit manufacturers use the basis of this model to determine system cooling and heat load requirements.
